2009 Ornament

St. Nicholas, a real character, born in what is now Turkey in the 4th Century, was legendary for his kindness and generosity. "St. Nick" was known to secretly give gifts to those in need. This "gift giver" idea spread throughout Europe, manifesting in an old English midwinter festival character that dressed in a green cloak. His outfit changed to the familiar red in late Victorian times. The common theme among these figures is their generosity and compassion. Like St. Nick, let's nurture these traits in our hearts year round. Pam Birdsall and Tim Worthington designed and carved the ornament and produced it with Heidi Penney in an edition of 300 in our Mahone Bay studio. |
